Decor of the Week: Hickory

Inspired heavily by the pale and untreated woods found in Scandinavian design, Hickory is a wood effect laminate, replicating the visible knots found in wood cut vertically from the trunk. This natural look makes Hickory perfect for interiors inspired by the Homely Hygge and Biophilic Connections interiors identified in our 2020 Trend Report.

In a full sheet, Hickory is a large scale replica of planked wood, designed to look like real material, and finished with an extra matt texture, creating the texture of sanded wood to the touch.

In a space that brings the outdoors in, a Biophilic Connections kitchen, Hickory can be paired with woods, stones and metals to create an eclectic depth of nature-inspired textures.

For a Scandi style kitchen, Hickory works in the light, bright setting typical of a Nordic-inspired space – it creates the appealing effect of a pale, unprocessed wood, but offers all the practicality of laminate; it stands up to life in a family kitchen, is easier to cut and faster to fit. In our example above we’ve chosen a warm green accent colour, pale wood floor and a subtly patterned Statement Splashback.
